Gazeley has been granted planning consent to develop a £70m B&Q distribution centre in Swindon.

The industrial developer will build the 796,649 sq ft logistics hub at its G Park site in Swindon, the first development at the site.

Property Week revealed in June that the DIY retailer was planning to move to the industrial park next to the M4.

Nigel Godfrey, senior vice president of Gazeley said: “Gazeley is delighted with Swindon Borough Council’s decision to approve the planning application.

“We look forward to starting on site in the autumn and will complete the facility by next summer.

“As well as reducing the environmental impact of the development, Gazeley has sought to ensure that the building will deliver significant annual operating cost savings for B&Q through reduced energy consumption.”

Outline planning permission was granted in November 2006 for up to 1.42m sq ft of warehousing at G Park Swindon. More
